Hip-hop legend Murs launches Groundwaves(AR) — a monthly community open mic and mentorship program — at 214 S Main St in Springdale, at 6pm on Tuesday May 18.
The collaboration with CACHE (Creative Arkansas Community Hub & Exchange) marks only the second iteration of the popular program birthed at the Music District in Colorado, and by the end of the 6-month season the twin programs are bound to interact across state lines.
Murs arrives in Springdale the 3rd Tuesday of every month beginning in May and running through October, inviting rappers and MCs from across Arkansas and all adjacent states to show up and test their skills in front of a live audience of peers.
Performers and audience swap criticism, love, and community — and Murs himself weighs in. The next day, and recurring monthly, those brave enough to take the mic can sign up for one-on-one mentorship and conversation time with Murs. Artistic
development, the business of music, the history of hip-hop — no subject is off-limits. Except relationships. Murs does not want to give romantic advice.
Join us for the first Groundwaves(AR), supported by Tyson Family Foundation, on Tuesday May 18, 6pm, for this (free!) monthly skill-building community cypher. Sign-ups are in person only, beginning at 5pm day-of, so the earlier you arrive, the better your chance to perform in front of Murs and the entire Arkansas hip-hop community.
CACHE will stay up-to-date throughout the season with the safest, most rigorous health standards for live events, social distancing, mic sanitization protocols, and everything else that allows you to keep your mind and heart on your lyrics, beats and bars.
